The Spin

Anti-Trump narrative

Trump's push to fire Cook continues to be a blatant power grab that puts the Fed's independence on the chopping block. If he succeeds, he'd stack the board with loyalists and pressure the Fed to slash rates for political gain. Conveniently, Bessent and others in Trump's cabinet allegedly committed the same offense as Cook, yet they've faced zero consequences.

Pro-Trump narrative

Cook committed a clear integrity breach that gives the president legal cause to fire her under the Federal Reserve Act. Fed independence protects monetary policy from politics, not governors from alleged document fraud. Ordinary Americans go to prison for this kind of misrepresentation, and public officials shouldn't get a pass just because they hold a powerful seat.
