This is a genuine breakthrough. The mRNA vaccine outperforms standard flu shots, can produce stronger, more diverse antibodies and also allows far faster vaccine production, meaning better strain matching each season. For anyone 50 and older, this is a smarter, more effective option heading into the 2026-27 flu season.
Establishment-critical narrative
The mRNA vaccine barely edges out standard shots and still requires annual boosters, hardly the revolution being sold to the public. The vaccine also got accelerated approval for those 65 and older, meaning full efficacy data for seniors doesn't even exist yet. This looks far more like a revenue play than a genuine public health advance.
