Version 7.7.2
Banning high-caffeine energy drink sales to under-16s is a smart, overdue move that protects kids from real harms, including anxiety, poor sleep and damaged concentration. Significantly, these negatives disproportionately impair children from the most deprived communities, exacerbating poor outcomes. It is the government's duty, therefore, to stop this in its tracks, to help those who need it most focus on their studies and get ahead in life.
This ban shows how poorly misplaced the government's priorities are when it chooses to introduce a ban on under-16s purchasing energy drinks while allowing 11-year-olds to access life-altering puberty blockers. Even more farcical, these new restrictions will affect adults by preventing them from buying drinks from vending machines in their own workplaces. This policy is just riddled with inconsistencies.
