Trump and Republicans carving up maps to lock in power was a disgrace, and the backlash was well-earned. Voters saw straight through the scheme and took back every seat drawn to dilute community voices. The only shame is that those rigged lines cushioned the fall — on fair maps, the wipeout would have been even bigger.
Republicans redrew several House districts to lock in safer seats, but the strategy spread their voters too thin and underestimated the backlash against the party. In a Democratic wave, supposedly secure districts became competitive or flipped, turning an attempted advantage into even deeper losses.
