Version 7.18.2
A pharmacy counter should be the last line of defense against the opioid epidemic, not a cash register that ignores obvious red flags. When corporate quotas and understaffing push pharmacists to fill first and never ask questions, patients die and taxpayers foot the bill. Real accountability, with monitoring and reporting safeguards, has been long overdue, and this settlement delivers.
Pharmacists are being judged after the fact against standards the government never bothered to write down. Every prescription at issue came from a practitioner the government itself licensed to prescribe controlled substances, and voluntarily blocking suspect doctors drew lawsuits from the other direction. Squeezing pharmacies from both sides leaves patients in real pain with nowhere to turn.
