Is this proof that youth sports still belong to the kids or a distraction from a pay-to-play crisis?

The Spin

Narrative A

Curaçao's win is a triumph of community, grit and pure love of the game, which is exactly what youth sports should be about. Despite losing in the end, Paseo Verde's 14-0 run before the final, built on dominant pitching and record-setting defense, also shows what kids can accomplish when a whole community rallies behind them. Whether it's packed watch parties in Hamilton or held-back tears in Nevada, these moments prove youth baseball still belongs to the kids and the towns that raised them.

Narrative B

The magic of Williamsport is certainly still alive, but it also masks a youth sports system that's been quietly priced out of reach for millions of kids. Private equity firms have muscled into the space, driving tournament fees into the hundreds and annual costs past $10,000, meaning the kids most likely to make it to a World Series are the ones whose families can afford it. Little League baseball should work to prevent this corporate creep from stealing the charm of baseball from any more kids.
