Oxfordshire County Council is wasting taxpayer money dragging patriotic flag-raisers to the High Court instead of fixing potholes or sorting social care. The Union Flag and St George's Cross aren't partisan symbols — they belong to everyone as expressions of national pride. Scheduling the injunction hearing on the same day England plays a World Cup match makes the council's contempt for ordinary people impossible to ignore.
Raise the Colours is a crew of individuals with criminal records for weapons, drugs and violence who've been arrested multiple times for harassment and intimidation. The council sought an injunction only after months of confrontations, a formal legal notice and repeated pre-action letters that the group ignored. Flying flags is fine; bullying residents and abusing council workers is something else entirely.
