Christiane Amanpour to Exit CNN After 43 Years

CNN chief international anchor Christiane Amanpour announced Monday that she will leave the network in June 2027, ending a 43-year run. The 68-year-old said she decided to separate from CNN after "many months of thought and a few sleepless nights."

Amanpour's daily programs on CNN and PBS will end in December, and her CNN International show will shift to once a week in January 2027 before concluding in May. She had already scaled back to hosting a few days a week in January 2025.

CNN Chairman Mark Thompson said in a Monday memo to staff that he and Amanpour had discussed the decision for months, describing her as "one of the most trusted and beloved journalists anywhere" and thanking her for 43 years at the network.

When fresh ownership already carries a record of ideological realignment and cozy ties to the White House, losing the anchor who covered Bosnia, Rwanda and Ukraine should worry anybody. Truth-telling beats sycophancy, and viewers are the ones who lose when that trade gets made.
