Version 7.7.2
Paxson's tenure was a masterclass in steady, principled leadership — she brought ROTC back to campus, built a thriving Jewish community and settled with the Trump administration swiftly while peer institutions floundered. Brown is far stronger academically and culturally than when she arrived in 2012. Stepping down voluntarily, on her own terms, is the mark of a leader who delivered.
Paxson's exit from Brown can't be separated from the December 2025 campus shooting that killed two students on her watch. That was a catastrophic security failure. Ideology-forward leadership clearly came at the expense of basic student safety. Brown deserves a president whose top priority is keeping students alive, not signaling campus culture.
