The Spin

Right narrative

This is a travesty of justice that amounts to pure political persecution. Bolsonaro's so-called violations amount to a handwritten letter of support for his own son, and that's the justification for total isolation ahead of an election. Foreign leaders visited Lula freely when he was imprisoned; now the rules have suddenly changed because the political players are different.

Left narrative

Bolsonaro's house arrest is already an extraordinary humanitarian privilege, as thousands of prisoners with worse health conditions sit in actual cells. The court's response was measured and proportional, after Flávio Bolsonaro walked out of his father's residence and read a letter live on social media, a clear violation of restrictions on indirect social media use.
