Is this proof of a targeted strike on Syria's transition or evidence that the new government has lost control?

The Spin

Pro-government narrative

The Syrian government rapidly responded to this heinous attack and worked quickly to secure the area. Unfortunately, it will still take time to improve security in the country, given the instability Syria has faced over the last 15 years. Nonetheless, seemingly random attacks like this indicate that the terrorists are desperate.

Government-critical narrative

Damascus has faced a relentless wave of violence since Assad's fall in December 2024, and this café bombing near the Palace of Justice is the latest proof that Syria's new Jihadist rulers haven't secured the capital. The deadliest prior attack killed 25 people at a church in June 2025, and a car bomb hit the Defense Ministry on May 19 — the pattern is undeniable. Instability keeps mounting because Syria's IS regime is incapable of preventing Jihadist terror.
