Boebert Denies Ethics Complaint Over Alleged Staffer Affairs

Is Boebert facing the same accountability she's demanded of others or is this an unverified smear?

The Facts

  • U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert's (R-Colo.) office said Sunday that there's "zero truth" to a sworn ethics complaint accusing her of sexual relationships with staffers, arguing that under Ethics Committee Rule 15 a complaint cannot be filed within 60 days of an election involving the member.
  • In addition, Boebert denied the allegations Saturday in an interview with Sources Say News, saying that she is not a lesbian or bisexual and has never been sexually involved with any staff. A spokesperson called the complaint a "politically motivated stunt."
  • The complaint was filed Sept. 17 with the House Committee on Ethics by David B. Wheeler, president and co-founder of American Muckrakers, a political action committee that has targeted Boebert for years. He signed it under penalty of perjury.

The Spin

Left narrative

Boebert built her career lecturing everyone else about morality, telling colleagues caught in sex scandals to go to church and find Jesus while smearing LGBTQ people as groomers. Now sworn allegations describe relationships with three staffers she supervised and a $200,000 payment to keep one quiet. Boebert once demanded lawmakers disclose settlements — that standard applies here too.

Right narrative

This is a campaign hit job dressed up as an ethics filing, timed so that the House Ethics Committee can't even accept it within 60 days of an election. Not one shred of independent proof exists, no member of Congress certified it in good faith and both women named have flatly denied the whole thing. Newsrooms ran salacious claims from a serial smear artist without checking the rulebook first.
