Blanche Faces Senate Questions Over DOJ Nomination

Is Todd Blanche the battle-tested leader the DOJ needs or a personal fixer too compromised to serve as Attorney General?

    The Spin

    Democratic narrative

Todd Blanche literally called himself Trump's lawyer mid-hearing — then tried to walk it back. Federal judges have already found him guilty of improper and illegal conduct, yet he's being put forward to lead the entire Justice Department. Confirming someone who has functioned as the president's personal fixer rather than the nation's top law enforcement officer is a dangerous mistake.

    Republican narrative

Blanche is exactly the kind of battle-tested, qualified nominee the DOJ needs. He walked away from a massive private-sector salary to defend Trump against what was widely seen as a nakedly partisan prosecution — and he won. Former Attorney General Bill Barr, who knows the department better than most, supports Blanche as the best person to deliver strong leadership and stability to the Justice Department, and that endorsement carries weight.
