Apple Unveils First Foldable iPhone
The Facts
- Apple introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, Wednesday at its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters. The device starts at $1,999 for 256GB, with pre-orders opening Oct. 16 and sales beginning Oct. 23.
- The Duo has a 5.4-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch inner display that Apple says is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. It uses Grade 5 titanium, a hinge built from more than 100 components and carries an IP68 rating.
- The launch was the first major event for CEO John Ternus, who replaced Tim Cook on Sept. 1. Ternus said that rival foldables "feel like two phones awkwardly stuck together" and that Apple aimed to redefine the category.
