The fact that Albertans delivered over 301,000 signatures in support of this petition is a ringing endorsement of Albertan independence that the establishment can no longer ignore. For too long, the province has been on the receiving end of Ottawa's mistreatment and bad policy. Albertans, therefore, deserve the opportunity to decide what constitutional arrangements work for them.

Pro-establishment narrative

The Alberta separatist movement rests on shaky ground after a substantial data breach exposed the personal information of roughly 2.9 million voters. Given that an independent Alberta would be a disaster for both the province and Canada, the Albertan and Canadian authorities should capitalize on this episode to quash the secessionist movement for good and ensure Canada is kept strong and unified.
