This chart uses Stanford HAI's 2026 AI Index Report, Chapter 4 Economy, Figure 4.2.8, which reports private AI investment by geographic area in 2025. The underlying data is sourced from Quid, 2025, and the chart keeps those source values while rounding labels to one decimal place for readability.
The chart shows the top 15 geographic areas in 2025. The United States leads at $285.9B, followed by China at $12.4B and the United Kingdom at $5.9B. France and Canada follow at $4.4B and $4.3B, respectively. The U.S. invested 23.1 times more than China and 48.5 times more than the U.K.
This should be read separately from the AI R&D investment chart on this site. Stanford's figure is private AI investment in U.S. dollars for 2025, while the OECD.AI chart uses experimental estimates of AI-specific R&D investment in euros. They answer different questions, so the countries are not directly comparable across those two charts.
