This chart uses Stanford HAI's 2025 AI Index public data for Figure 4.3.8, which reports private AI investment by geographic area in 2024. The underlying CSV names the metric "Total Investment (in Billions of U.S. Dollars)", and the chart keeps those source values while rounding labels to one decimal place for readability.
The chart shows the top 15 geographic areas in the public-data file. The United States leads at $109.1B, followed by China at $9.3B and the United Kingdom at $4.5B. Sweden and Canada follow at $4.3B and $2.9B, respectively.
This should be read separately from the AI R&D investment chart on this site. Stanford's figure is private AI investment in U.S. dollars for 2024, while the OECD.AI chart uses experimental estimates of AI-specific R&D investment in euros. They answer different questions, so the countries are not directly comparable across those two charts.
