The Spin

Pro-government narrative

This is a tragedy that demands justice, and first responders deserve credit for preventing even greater loss of life. Law enforcement acted with courage and speed, and full support for police is the right call as they work to bring the perpetrators to account. The focus now must be on the grieving families and holding those responsible accountable.

Government-critical narrative

A family festival turned into a shooting scene is proof that deterrence has broken down and violent offenders face too little consequence. Toronto families shouldn't have to fear for their lives at public events, yet here we are again. When the justice system keeps cycling dangerous people back onto the streets, tragedies like this are the predictable result.
