Version 7.4.1
Joint UPDF and FARDC operations are delivering tangible results against the ADF, freeing over 200 civilians from a major camp along the River Epulu and dismantling key rebel strongholds in the process. Sustained military pressure has weakened the group’s operational capacity, helping reopen schools and gradually restore cross-border trade. Regional cooperation under Operation Shujaa remains the most credible and viable path toward lasting stability in eastern DRC.
Freeing more than 200 civilians from an ADF camp is a positive step, but it cannot hide the broader reality in eastern DRC. The group continues to massacre civilians and burn villages in retaliation for military pressure, underscoring how entrenched the violence remains. Despite repeated operations and assurances, the state response is still inconsistent and falls short of protecting vulnerable rural populations, leaving large areas exposed and the cycle of attacks ongoing.
