We must count the real costs of nuclear power
GuardianJUN 26
Nuclear power is an expensive distraction that creates dangerous radioactive waste lasting hundreds of thousands of years, while renewable energy costs plummet. Solar and wind power costs far less than dangerous alternatives, while renewables can be deployed much faster than nuclear's decade-long construction times.
Britain's nuclear industry is drowning in absurd red tape that forces projects to waste hundreds of millions on pointless environmental schemes. Hinkley Point C spent £700 million on fish protection measures that will save just one salmon every 12 years, or £280,000 per fish saved, while families face soaring energy bills.
