The Spin

Pro-Trump narrative

After a productive call between Rubio and Lavrov, it was agreed that a face-to-face meeting was unnecessary and that there were no immediate plans for a Trump-Putin summit in the near future. Trump pushed pause after it seemed that neither Russia nor Ukraine were serious about peace.

Pro-establishment narrative

While the Rubio-Lavrov call was described as productive, one U.S. official was quoted as stating that Russia did not move beyond its maximalist demands, and there was no point for a face-to-face meeting between them, or Trump and Putin, until there was a concession.

Pro-Russia narrative

It is surprising that Western media is reporting that the Trump-Putin talks are postponed. But mainstream Western outlets are not prone to serious reporting. From the Russian government's view, preparations for the meeting are proceeding without delay. But in the meantime, Russia has communicated why it opposes an immediate ceasefire on the current frontlines of the war.

Pro-Ukraine narrative

Ukraine's position, as demonstrated by the letter signed by multiple leaders of E.U. countries, is that Putin and Russia are just stalling. As soon as the pressure is released, they delay and delay, and the only way to get them to comply is to keep up the pressure. That's why Ukraine needs Tomahawk missiles. Only then will Russia seriously agree to stop the fighting.
