The Spin

Establishment-critical narrative

This is nothing but a blatant example of economic blackmail disguised as diplomacy. NATO's unelected secretary-general is threatening sovereign nations for conducting legitimate trade, acting like he rules the world. Secondary sanctions represent imperial overreach that punishes countries for refusing to bow to Western demands.

Pro-establishment narrative

These measures are necessary to cut off Putin's war funding and force serious peace negotiations. So far, Russia has been able to circumvent direct sanctions by selling oil to countries such as Brazil, China and India, so secondary sanctions targeting these buyers could finally pressure Moscow to end its brutal invasion of Ukraine.
