Unlike its enemies, Israel always acknowledges when it has made a tragic mistake. Given the fact that Hamas uses schools and hospitals as cover for terrorist command centers, it is unfortunately inevitable that civilians will die in Israeli strikes. Nonetheless, Israel will investigate this strike and ensure that every rule was followed.
It should be clear after almost two years of grinding brutality that Israel's true goal is to destroy Gaza and starve its people. The murder of these journalists was not a "mistake." Instead, it was the product of a systematic campaign to kill journalists so that Israel can hide its crimes. Even more infuriating, Western media outlets have done little to support their colleagues in Gaza, who have borne the brunt of Israel's genocide.
Israel must do more to prevent harm to civilians, especially journalists documenting the conflict. Indeed, there has been a troubling pattern of Palestinian journalists in Gaza being killed in Israeli strikes. Ultimately, both sides need to make concessions so that a ceasefire can be fully implemented and the hostages are returned.
