The Spin

Republican narrative

Democrats may condone McIver's behavior, and she has continued to make excuses for her actions, but Republicans reserve the right to hold her accountable for breaking the law. The Democrats' railroading of Santos when he was charged, but not convicted of, a crime set the precedent for Mace to file this resolution. Democrats should think twice before assaulting law enforcement.

Democratic narrative

Resisting the unconstitutional actions of the Trump administration and its agencies is a moral obligation for all lawmakers, regardless of party. But Democrats are the only ones standing up to the unlawfulness, and actions like Mace's show just how morally bankrupt the Republicans have become. Democrats must defend McIver in order to halt the Republicans' persecution of dissent.
