The Spin

Narrative A

This assassination is a blatant assault on Ukraine's democratic institutions and the brave individuals who have fought tirelessly for the country's European future. Parubiy was a true patriot who made enormous contributions to Ukraine's defense of freedom and sovereignty during the Euromaidan revolution. The targeted killing of such a prominent figure deeply threatens the security of all Ukrainian leaders.

Narrative B

This murder is indeed horrific, but it should not be seen as a threat to all Ukrainian leaders. Parubiy's controversial past, including his founding of far-right organizations and inflammatory statements praising Hitler's use of democratic procedures, earned him numerous enemies throughout his political career. His involvement with extremist groups and accusations regarding the deadly Odessa Trade Union building fire made him a polarizing figure with many potential motives for revenge.
