Elon Musk's xAI announced on Thursday a partnership with El Salvador to launch what has been described as the world's first nationwide AI-powered education program, deploying Grok across more than 5,000 public schools in the country over the next two years.

According to xAI, the program will provide adaptive, curriculum-aligned tutoring personalized for each of the country's more than 1 million school students, generate new methodologies and empower teachers as collaborative partners in education.

Details on the pilot phase, timeline and teacher training plans are expected for early 2026, while questions remain about whether remote areas in the country will have the required connectivity and device availability.

AI tools have grown popular in schools, with a Gallup poll published over the summer finding that most K-12 public school teachers in the U.S. used them over the past school year. Chatbots have also been introduced to public schools in Estonia and rural Colombia.
