Al-Sisi's Saudi trip highlights the deepening ties between the two brotherly nations. While both countries are advancing bilateral and regional economic integration, al-Sisi and the Saudi crown prince are committed to confronting Israel over its violations of international law, with Egypt playing a key role in mediating a Gaza ceasefire. Egypt's firm stance is not affected by its gas deal with Israel, which is economically sound and is merely an extension of the 2019 deal, not a new agreement.
Al-Sisi's visit to Saudi Arabia is a shameful testament to the hypocrisy of both rulers when it comes to the suffering of the Palestinian people. Riyadh and Cairo never tire of vehemently criticizing Israel for its crimes in Gaza, while avoiding any concrete action against the Israeli regime and prioritizing economic and geopolitical interests over human lives. The most recent example is Egypt's outrageous gas deal with Tel Aviv, which reduces Egypt's criticism of Israel to absurdity.
