The Spin

Pro-government narrative

Ecuador is dealing with a terrorist organization disguising chaos and violence as legitimate protest to destabilize democratically elected governments. CONAIE has long manipulated social causes to run extortion schemes and political blackmail operations. These so-called protests are actually coordinated attacks designed to overthrow the state through organized criminal activity.

Government-critical narrative

Ecuador's government is brutally crushing peaceful protesters with military force, killing workers and violating basic human rights to the extent that even U.N. rapporteurs have condemned the crackdown. Noboa and his allies are labeling legitimate protesters as terrorists to justify deadly repression against Indigenous communities exercising constitutional rights.
