The Spin

Republican narrative

While Democrats and their allies in the media keep reporting that crime is down in the nation's capital, incidents like this show why it was necessary for Trump to intervene. This individual was likely motivated by a desire for notoriety, and now he's going to get it in the form of a severe punishment for assaulting an officer. This should set an example for anyone else planning something nefarious against those making D.C. safe again.

Democratic narrative

The charge against Dunn is yet another troubling example of the overreach stemming from Trump’s decision to impose federal control over policing in D.C. — a move made without credible evidence to justify it. Pirro is trying to make an example of Dunn, while at the same time, the DOJ and other federal agencies routinely ignore far more serious violent crimes, including documented cases of officers mistreating immigrants across the country.
