The Spin

Narrative A

The Knicks could've made history by hiring Staley — who reportedly impressed them — as the NBA's first female head coach. Her difficult questioning of them during the interview showed that she possesses the leadership skills required for the job. But instead, they were intimidated by the magnitude of their opportunity and chickened out.

Narrative B

Staley has had interviews with and interest from the NBA before, and she's certainly one of the top candidates to eventually break the glass ceiling of being a female head coach at the game's highest level. Back at South Carolina, she can continue to make history overall as well as for women with her record-breaking salary and successful coaching resume.
