The Spin

Republican narrative

Democrats are in despair amid a crisis of leadership and messaging that has left even their own voters deeply dissatisfied. They have bet everything that opposition to President Trump would boost their chances in the midterms, only to have reality kick them now. If anyone is unpopular in the U.S., it's Congressional Democrats.

Democratic narrative

The Democratic Party must realize that the disconnect between its base and congresspeople stems from legitimate concerns about their ability to represent progressive values and effectively challenge the Trump administration. Though approval ratings are low now, Democratic voters will back the party anyway.
