Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo declared an Ebola virus disease outbreak in Kasai Province on Thursday, with 28 suspected cases and 15 deaths reported, including four health workers who died from the infection.

The outbreak began in late August, when a pregnant woman who was admitted to a hospital in Bulape with bleeding died within five days. Following her death, the nurses and laboratory technicians who cared for her began falling ill.
