Biya's victory represents stability in a complex nation facing serious security challenges from separatist violence and regional conflicts. His 43-year leadership has maintained national unity across diverse linguistic and regional divisions while avoiding debt disasters and assembling inclusive governments. The protests following his reelection demonstrate the dangerous instability that opposition rhetoric creates in a country already struggling with armed conflicts.
The election results are a complete sham that extends an illegitimate gerontocracy's stranglehold on power through systematic fraud and violence. Tchiroma clearly won with over 60% of the vote, but Biya's regime manipulated institutions to steal victory and then brutally suppressed peaceful protesters demanding democracy. This rigged outcome perpetuates the monopolistic control of resources that has created economic and social deadlocks across Cameroon.
