The Spin

Left narrative

Brazil's J8 rioters, as well as Bolsonaro and several of his allies, have been charged for their role in a coup attempt following his electoral defeat in 2022. Make no mistake, those claiming that they are facing a witch hunt are merely far-right voices attempting to put pressure on Brazilian institutions in a desperate bid to let them go unpunished.

Right narrative

For anyone closely watching protests in Brazil, the Jan. 8, 2023 prosecutions have long revealed a two-tier justice system where left-wing activists face little to no consequences for acts of vandalism while right-wing protesters face harsh sentences. These new files further expose the existence of an illegal shadow justice system to persecute peaceful Bolsonaro supporters.
