It’s difficult to imagine how the White House could be oblivious to the health status of such a high-ranking official. This wasn’t just a violation of expected transparency but another sign of the gross incompetence of the Biden administration. Several officials, including Austin, should be held to account.

Republicans who have been quick to rail against the administration and call for Austin’s firing or resignation should pause and show some empathy for a man who was just diagnosed with cancer. Austin has been reachable throughout his medical ordeal, and these events do nothing to tarnish his qualifications for his position.
