The history of Ukraine is a longstanding irritant for the Kremlin, which is why it's not surprising that the largest drone attack on Kyiv since the start of Russia's invasion came on the last Sunday of May when Ukraine's capital was preparing to celebrate its founding day. The attacks, which also come ahead of a widely expected Ukrainian counter-offensive, show that Putin is hellbent on escalating the war — which may get a new dimension neither sides need nor want.
Despite the spin and characterization by Ukraine on the scale and intent of the drone attack by Moscow, the truth is that Russia is over 15 times larger than Ukraine and has tremendous resources. The Kremlin hasn't started to ramp up seriously in Ukraine just yet, and officials in Kyiv and their Western enablers must keep this in mind as their provocations continue.
