Government under pressure to cut fuel duty again as tank of petrol reaches £100
CanaryMAR 16 2022
The government has and continues to mitigate the impact of this crisis on consumers and help Britons with the cost of living. It's now time for the government to scrutinize retailers and ensure they pass cuts on to consumers.
Consumers are already facing a crippling cost of living crisis, with food and energy prices hitting record highs. Fuel is only expected to rise further and, rather than blaming retailers, the government needs to implement radical relief policies.
Reducing fuel prices through tax cuts is only going to prolong this crisis: by making fuel more affordable, demand is stimulated which puts further pressure on an already burdened supply chain. Though unpopular, the government needs to let the market work.
