Death by electrocution is cruel and unusual. As the death penalty is likely to remain State law for a while, inmates should have the right to choose a more humane alternative. The option of a firing squad is faster and more reliable.
It's misleading to claim that death by firing squad is a more humane approach. The reality is that this option is always gruesome, and doesn't cause instantaneous death. Worse yet, it's a contradiction to the gun violence that the law wishes to abolish.
Capital punishment is a barbaric affair that compounds violence with violence. It eliminates any possibility of rehabilitation, drains tax dollars, and forces the victim's loved ones to relive the crime. The death penalty is no more effective at ensuring a safe society than a life sentence - we need to reform our sense of "justice".
