The Facts

A growing wildfire in California's Yosemite National Park is threatening the largest grove of giant sequoias. The Mariposa Grove holds more than 500 sequoias, including the 3k-yr-old Grizzly Giant.

The Washburn fire - which started on July 7th - more than doubled in size over the weekend. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In an effort to protect the trees, officials have equipped the area with portable sprinklers. They have also wrapped the historic Mariposa Grove cabin in protective foil.
