    The Facts

    • 7 people, including 2 children, have been killed after several tornadoes hit central Iowa over the weekend, in the state's deadliest storm in over a decade.

    • 6 of the fatalities came from Madison County, just southwest of Des Moines.

    The Spin

    Right narrative

Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds has been quick to respond. She's already issued a disaster proclamation for Madison County and will oversee the utilization of state resources to assist with response and recovery efforts to the event.

    Left narrative

It's not enough to deal with consequences post-hoc. Scientists have been clear that warmer temperatures make extreme weather events more likely. More money should be spent to prevent climate change in the first place and prepare for disasters.

    Narrative C

It's easy to dismiss any extreme weather event as a consequence of climate change, but in reality they're usually influenced by a myriad of factors that have nothing to do with it. More research is needed before we can establish any direct causal link between the two.
