Julia Salazar is an American politician and activist born on December 30, 1990, who serves as the New York State Senator for the 18th district, representing much of northern Brooklyn including Bushwick, Cypress Hills, and East New York. She won her seat as a first-time candidate in 2018, defeating incumbent Senator Martin Malave Dilan and becoming the youngest woman ever elected to the New York State Senate. Her advocacy background includes work on tenant rights, domestic worker protections, service industry worker rights, and criminal legal reform during her time as a college student at Columbia University.
