Department of War CTO
The Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Technology Officer (CTO) office was established in March 2025 under Secretary Pete Hegseth to advise the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense on critical technology matters, strategy, policy, and programmatic investment decisions. The office, led by Dr. Alan Shaffer, reports directly to the Secretary of Defense and serves as the principal advocate for science, technology, and innovation across the U.S. government, industry, and academia.
