Abolhassan Banisadr was an Iranian economist, politician, and the first President of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the 1979 revolution, known for serving from February 1980 until his impeachment by parliament in June 1981 due to his outspoken opposition to clerical dominance. After fleeing to France, he became a lifelong dissident, co‑founding the National Council of Resistance of Iran and continuing to critique the Tehran regime until his death in Paris.
