Abdullah Öcalan

Abdullah Öcalan is the imprisoned founder and leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU. Captured in 1999, he has been serving a life sentence on İmralı Island since 2000. His writings on democratic confederalism continue to influence Kurdish political movements across the Middle East.
