The Spin

Pro-establishment narrative

Alberta's separation from Canada would be an unprecedented disaster. Any withdrawal would devastate Alberta's economy, undermine citizen rights and First Nation treaty rights, and have additional negative consequences. For this reason, a majority of Albertans will oppose any measure that threatens to break the province's ties with Canada.

Establishment-critical narrative

Ever since its accession as a province to Canada in 1905, Alberta has struggled to protect its rights, freedoms, and prosperity from an ever-intrusive federal government that has sought to limit Alberta's autonomy. In light of this, separation and sovereignty are the only ways Alberta can retake control to grow its economy and invest in its people.
