    The Spin

    Democratic narrative

The Pentagon's decision shows just how cruel the Trump administration's policies are toward transgender people, in the military and out. This isn't about military readiness, it's sheer bigotry. It's unacceptable and something must be done to stop it.

    Republican narrative

The president is committed to making the U.S. military as ready as possible, and that includes removing transgender troops. This is what Americans voted for. Those troops who are leaving had no right to expect they would be granted a rare exception to receive early retirement benefits, which are reserved for those who have served for longer.
