Chauvin's appeal warrants thorough scrutiny. In addition to suffering from heart ailments and a tumor, Floyd had lethal levels of fentanyl in his system — factors that were not adequately addressed in court. Equally troubling is the influence of a highly charged political environment, which, as even the medical examiner has acknowledged, could have swayed the trial.
Allowing this examination will needlessly undermine a case where the evidence overwhelmingly pointed to Floyd's death as a result of asphyxiation. Despite his defense's medical theories, the jury found him responsible, with even the conservative-leaning Supreme Court declining to entertain these unfounded claims. Derek Chauvin is guilty.
