The Spin

Narrative A

Standing out as the only Latino and big-city mayor running, as well as for having the most pluralistic ideology among Republican 2024 presidential candidates, Suarez is indeed a unique and intriguing challenger. However, as Miami's mayor, he has a largely ceremonial role. It will be very hard for him to gain any real traction behind Trump and DeSantis in the GOP, but he's an interesting and refreshing addition to the primaries.

Narrative B

Suarez has no road ahead of him. By endorsing Democrats Hilary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election and Andrew Gillum in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial election, he's proven that he's not a real Republican. His impact will likely be barely a footnote in the GOP primaries.
